“Mountview Dance School Ltd.” is able to offer your child lessons in ISTD

Cecchetti classical ballet. Dance lessons take place on Mondays and Saturdays at St. John's Methodist Church, Baker Street, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

I.S.T.D. Cecchetti Ballet

Children from the age of 3 upwards are accepted. Basic ballet technique is covered in the early stages, in addition to free movement and imaginative dance. This develops into syllabus work which comprises of barre work, centre work, port de bras, adage, pirouettes, allegro and ultimately pointe work.

The Cecchetti method has both standard (class) and grade examinations which your child may take at the Principal's discretion. Standard examinations take place in the studio with the class teacher present. Children enter in groups of 4. These examinations are very informal and are specifically for the “once a week child” who comes simply to enjoy. Grade examinations take place in the studio without the class teacher present. Children enter in groups of 2 or 3. Grade examinations are more formal than class exams and require a slightly more serious approach. Theory questions are asked in the examination. The ISTD has been fortunate in having gained QCA recognition. This means that the marking system has changed to come into line with the educational system. Candidates will be awarded a Grade A, B, C, (rather like ‘GCSE' level results), according to the % mark that they have accumulated throughout the various sections of their examination. They receive a breakdown of their marks in the form of a report and a certificate if successful.

The grading system for Cecchetti ballet examinations is outlined below:

Standard 1, Grade 1

Standard 2, Grade 2

Standard 3, Grade 3

It must be stressed that examinations are not compulsory. Some children may want to attend classes without ever taking an exam, but others may wish to be more formally rewarded for their efforts. Pupils are able to progress with their class, whether they take an examination or not.
